| Restoration is well underway at the Old House Society
Education Center located in the 1882 Charles Cantine House in Bloomington,
Illinois. The Center is already becoming the hub for Old House Society's
educational activities. These include:
Book Publishing - Information about
Picturesque Bloomington 1907, Bloomginton-Normal Lost
and our plans for more books.
Gift to the Street Awards - awarded
to buildings whose owners have maintained or restored its original
architectural characteristics.
Restoration - of the 1882 Cantine
House to the late 19th century. See the latest progress.
Archaeological Excavation - of
the grounds surrounding the 1882 Cantine House. Our arcaeologists
are starting the "Big Dig". Recently, they gave students
from Illinois Wesleyan Univeristy a tour
of the project.
History - of the Cantine
family -- the first owners of the house which is now our Education
Center.
The Education Center will also house our library and resources,
reading room, historical garden, and period artifacts as well as
offer hands-on workshops on preservation and restoration as we work
to restore the house to its origial 1880s condition.
