Gift to the Street Awards
The
Gift to the Street Award is given by Old House Society to buildings whose
owners have maintained or restored its original architectural characteristics.
This award was first given in 1989 and to date 65 buildings have received
the award.
Awarded buildings are identified by a commemmorative plaque identifying
the year the structure was built. The plaque is afixed to the structure's
facade.
Pictures of the Awarded houses and their geographical location are available
on the Historical Map of the Twin
Cities.
How to use the map:
- The Historical Map contains a reference list of all awarded houses,
by year. Houses are represented on the list and on their geographical
location by numbered orange squares. Clicking on an orange square will
open a window with the house's picture and information. Closing the
picture window will bring you back to the Historical Map.
- The Historical Map also contains links to maps of all 9 existent historic
districts in the Twin Cities. Clicking on any historic district on the
Historical Map will open the respective historic district's map.
Gift to the Street Award pages were created by Samanta Lax as part
of an internship through Illinois State University.
