Archaeology

Under the direction of Ed Jelks, PhD and Chuck Rohrbaugh, PhD, we will be excavating the yard behind the 1882 Charles Cantine House. Any artifacts that are recovered from the site will be examined, documented, and eventually displayed in the Education Center.

On Tuesday, October 18, 2005, students from Illinois Wesleyan toured the site and discussed plans with our archaeologists. (View photos.)

You will be able to follow this interesting process on this page. Or, if you would prefer to participate more actively, we are looking for volunteers to help with the dig this spring. No experience is necessary, simply email us (volunteer@oldhousesociety.org) for more information.
